VicGrid put call out for local businesses to get registrations in

The development of the transmission to support offshore wind energy off the coast of Gippsland is creating opportunities for local businesses with global bidders required to prioritise local suppliers.

VicGrid has today issued a call to Gippsland businesses to register on the Industry Capability Network (ICN) Gateway to ensure they are considered for work on the transmission to support the development of the first 2 gigawatts of offshore wind energy.

VicGrid CEO Alistair Parker said "Gippsland businesses have powered Victoria for generations and we want that local knowledge and experience to help shape the state’s clean energy future."

"This is more than a preference - it’s a requirement of the tender.

“By registering on the ICN Gateway, local companies ensure they are included in the pool of suppliers that tenderers must consider,"  he said.

The three companies tendering for the transmission project will receive the list of registered local businesses.

VicGrid has included requirements in the tender for the companies to demonstrate how they plan to use Gippsland suppliers in their bids.

This move is designed to ensure local firms benefit directly from this significant energy infrastructure investment.

The project will require a wide range of goods and services, including civil engineering, equipment supply, accommodation, transport and professional services.

The list of registered local businesses will be provided to the tenderers early next year, which makes immediate registration essential for local companies wishing to be considered.

Businesses are encouraged to register by mid-January 2026.

Gippsland businesses can register for free on the VicGrid ICN Gateway today by visiting  gateway.icn.org.au/projects/16009
