Bright future for Woodside with new lighting boost
woodside recreation reserve will get new lighting thanks to a 2025-2026 Country Football Netball program
Woodside Recreation Reserve is set for upgrades after securing funding in Round One of the 2025-2026 Country Football and Netball Program.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien congratulated the committee of management at Woodsides, which received grants to deliver new LED lighting upgrades for their oval.
Leongatha has also received funds for lighting up their reserve.
“These hardworking local committees have done a fantastic job putting together successful applications and it’s great to see their efforts pay off,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I also want to acknowledge the support provided by Wellington Shire Council for the Woodside Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and South Gippsland Shire Council for the Leongatha Recreation Reserve Committee of Management. It’s a real team effort to get these projects off the ground.”
Mr O’Brien said better lighting will make a big difference to both venues and the clubs they are home to.
“Improved facilities mean more opportunities for training and games, particularly through the winter months and that’s a huge benefit for players, coaches, volunteers and the wider community.”
With round two of the program now open, Mr O’Brien is encouraging other clubs to follow Woodside and Leongatha’s lead.
“Grants of up to $250,000 are available for projects such as new change rooms, lighting, resurfacing courts and ovals, and other important upgrades.
“Sport is at the heart of our communities and having modern facilities helps strengthen clubs, boost participation and deliver health and social benefits right across Gippsland South.”
Round Two of the Country Football and Netball Program opened on 18 September 2025 and will close on 26 February 2026. Clubs must register their interest with their local council before applying.
