Duck Drop delivers high-flying fun

YARRAM and District Cricket Club’s second annual Duck Drop proved a huge success on Saturday night, with a lively carnival atmosphere drawing a big crowd to the Yarram Recreation Reserve.

Food vans and live music by local performer Erin McKinney set the scene early, creating a festive mood before all eyes turned skyward around 8pm for the main event.

Local pilot Rheece Wade, joined by his sidekick Ben Lappin, thrilled spectators with a pair of low flyovers as they lined up their targets for the much-anticipated drops.
Drop One was marked by the YDCC first grade premiership flag, while Drop Two proudly featured the Brisbane Lions AFL back-to-back premiership flag laid out in the centre of the ground.

In spectacular fashion, Wade and Lappin released 300 rubber ducks on each drop, sending them raining down to the cheers and anticipation of the crowd below.

The excitement reached another level when the Commando Skydivers from Traralgon made their dramatic entrance, descending into the reserve to deliver the coveted Golden Duck, which carried a cash prize of $4000.

With aerial thrills, live entertainment and strong community support, the Duck Drop once again cemented itself as a standout event on the Yarram sporting calendar, while raising valuable funds for the Yarram and District Cricket Club.
