New car for learners
MR Les Riley from the Local Holden Dealership handed over a brand new Torana sedan to Yarram High School for the use of student drivers. Students will be given driving lessons around the school arena. The whole exercise is free of charge with the vehicle will be replaced each year with a new one.

DAIRY Farmers in this area supplying Murray Goulburn received shattering news overnight – they were advised a cut of 10c lb in butterfat payment to 50c.lb.

Unique agreement to conserve Koalas in the Strzelecki
KOALA dropping are being used to map the Strzelecki habitat of Australia favourite marsupial.
The team from Australia Koala Foundation (AKF) accompanied by zookeepers from five major North American zoos are spending a fortnight doing field work in the forest surrounding Yarram
Huge Ferry makes a point
THE INCAT Tasmania, a 98 metre ferry docked at Port Welshpool terminal on Saturday without a hitch, sending a message to all those who said it couldn’t happen.
President of the Yarram Traders and Tourism Garry Stephens hoped Saturday’s event was witnessed by both the state government and the ferry service operators TT-Line. Both doubted Port Welshpool’s capabilities and chose to continue using the multi million-dollar loss making ferry route to Station Pier.

Long dry season ahead
THE Bureau of Meteology has predicted a long dry summer.
GIVEN the prediction by the Bureau, residents and farmers in the region who rely on tank water should look at ways of preserving their water, such as showering with a bucket and use that water on the garden.
Rainfall in the district so far has been just 5.2mm.
No Show
NOT since the outbreak of WWII has the Yarram Show been cancelled, but it has been this year due to lack of funding, sponsorship and volunteers. This year would have been the 133rd Yarram Show and the organisers are devasted at having to make this decision.
