NAIDOC celebrations begins
Sunday July 6 marked the start of NAIDOC week.
Today, Monday July 7, the first of three local celebrations was held.
Yarram and District Health Service residents and staff gathered on the circular drive to witness dancing, a smoking and flag raising ceremonies by the staff and participants of Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place.
These special events were followed by a delicious barbecue - prepared by Angie and her crew at YDHS. On the menu was emu hamburgers, kangaroo sausage, coleslaw, delicious sauces and lemon and mertill slice.
This years theme for NAIDOC week is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," It celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
This theme was on display at todays YDHS event with some young members invited to join in the dancing. Some were relatives of participants and staff, another was holidaying from Canberra. Shaun and his fellas welcomed this young lad with open arms and made sure he felt a part of the celebrations. The care shown was heartwarming to witness. This kindness is why Shaun Braybrook such a valued member of this community.
YDHS CEO Paul Head also spoke with passion about the close association between YDHS and Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place.
