Stolen Yarram vehicle crashed in Morwell

Three youths have been arrested after a collision involving a stolen vehicle in Morwell this morning.

The 2020 Toyota RAV4, which was stolen from Yarram yesterday, was spotted travelling through the Traralgon just before 9.30am before driving to Warragul and back to the Latrobe Valley.

The driver was seen dropping off two passengers at a shopping centre on Princes Drive, Morwell about 11.20am.

The two teenage passengers were arrested by police shortly later inside the shopping centre.

The Toyota was then involved in a collision with two civilian vehicles, one of which rolled into a police vehicle, on Bridle Road at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue about 11.25am.

The driver fled on foot to nearby residential properties with police close behind.

Shortly later, the 17-year-old from the Wellington area was arrested by police in Park Avenue.

He and his two 13-year-old passengers from the Baw Baw area, will be interviewed by police.

No one was injured during the incident.

The owners of the stolen vehicle took to social media to thank those involved in the arrest of the three youths.

“Massive thank you from the bottom of my heart to the community for rallying together to stop them.

The past 24 hours have been a nightmare for our family. Our children are confused and upset and having nightmares about it. I feel completely violated knowing people entered my property to commit a crime less than 20 metres away from my sleeping children.

It's more than a car. This is the car my children get excited to see in the school pick up line. The car that's taken them to ballet and gymnastics, holidays and play dates. The car that brought them home from hospital as babies.

I can't stress enough how thankful I am for every single person who helped out in even the smallest way to get these maniacs off the road before someone got hurt. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming, and I am truly grateful.

Now we wait to hear back insurance,” they said

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
