Teacher strike
Teachers will strike tomorrow - Tuesday March 24.
Teachers, principals and education support staff will walk off the job for 24 hours on Tuesday after they rejected the government’s offer of a 17 per cent pay rise, branding it as completely unacceptable.
Schools have notified parents regarding the effect the strike will have on their school.
Alberton Primary have 3 teachers and 1 ES striking.. Classes will still run as per usual with three classes not having their regular teacher for the day.
Yarram Primary is expected to be significantly impacted, with the majority of staff (teachers and other employees) not available onsite on this day. Therefore, the school will operate a supervision only program, rather than a normal teaching and learning program, for select cohorts.
Supervision will be provided by registered teaching staff who may be Department employees.
With Regional Support attending onsite, we are able to have students from Rooms 1 and 3 only.
Woodside Primary advised the school will remain open, however, there will be modifications to the usual program and disruption to normal classroom routines. They will ensure all students are appropriately supervised throughout the day.
Yarram Secondary College have a supervision program for Year 7s and 8s and the Deveon North Campus will remain open.
They are also accepting students from parents who are employed in emergency services. The majority of College staff who are taking part in protected industrial action will be attending the rally in Melbourne. They are carpooling to Traralgon and then catching the train together.
