Coach Jenny Bland shares her game report

Yay! Our second win! Everyone seemed  really serious and quiet pre game. I was starting to think that netball is not a fun sport! We had a quiet but steady start to the game with all players playing safe netball. There was some really great positioning and finding space and then some moments when we forgot to open our vision and tried to force the ball forward. It was a close tussle for the first two quarters. Darcy-Lee and Jade were "new" members to the team and slotted in really well. There were quite a few rolling subs introduced during the game which can be unsettling but everyone adapted and worked hard to gain connections down the court. Everyone seemed to slip into another gear in the second half… Their endeavour to get to the hard and contested ball saw us make a few gains. And ..wow ..Manawa ...those intercepts were brilliant! Again the impressive part of the game was how our work rate lifted in the last quarter. You all pushed yourselves through the last 15 minutes.

Awards to Rachel for her leadership today. A great Captains game. And Lily ( Lil dog) for adjusting her game to try to subdue her very talented opponent. Coaches award to everyone on court for playing a great team game.

 C grade

Heyfield was hot out the block contesting every pass and putting our demons under a lot of pressure. There was some really nice plays throughout, especially from our juniors who were thrown into unfamiliar positions and coming up with some intercepts. Congrats to Evie Charles for her debut in C grade. It was great to have Grace Cook back playing this season. Her and Nicole worked nicely together in the ring with Nicole holding nicely and getting some much needed goals. Morale remained high on court and improvement is being made each week. Awards to Tahlia for her defensive tips and Nicole for her work in the ring.

Despite all the girls being new to each other and a lot of them coming back to netball, they worked really hard and the feeds into the ring were great. The girls have come a fair way since the start with their abilities with netball and being able to work as a team. Awards went to Alex for her performance in the defensive side, never giving up and running hard to reset herself. And Mel for taking on every position I put her in. She’s never complained, always executes and takes on the position so well.

17/U

It was a tough game today with three outs for the 17s, but we were super grateful to have Chloe, Charlotte, and Ella filling in for us from the 15s. The girls slotted in seamlessly with the team and gave 100% efforts on already tired legs. There were some incredible passages of play, from some ripper defensive intercepts to speedy lobs into the ring, the score certainly didn’t reflect how the game felt. Lilly demonstrated why she is our captain with an incredible 100th club game, exhibiting leadership, sportsmanship, and speedy passing in the ring. Olivia had a great game in WD, putting strong defensive pressure on to create intercepts. Next week we will be continuing to work on our consistency and steadiness in passing down court. A special mention to Steph, who was injured today and we are wishing a speedy recovery. Awards: Lilly Hunter and Olivia Bowden.

U15s

With 3 players out with injury and illness, and a fill in in tow, he made the long trip out to Heyfield. Our previously successful combos werent hitting the mark today so we tried something different and mixed the team up and WOW. We had defenders shooting, mid courters defending and everyone absolutely played their part. The scoreboard did not reflect the effort and small wins during the game. Our passing was hitting the mark far more consistently than our first few games however a tall Heyfield side made conversions to goals tricky. Awards today were Navy and Sammi.

Special shout out also to Charlotte, Chloe and Ella who backed up their efforts in 17s, before trekking back to Traralgon with Sammi and Navy for their TNA domestic game.
