Kiefer Sutherland deep in attack for Yarram
YARRAM travelled to Cowwarr knowing they faced a daunting task against the competition pacesetters.
Cowwarr have been in dominant form this season, winning their past five matches by an average margin of 98 points, with Rosedale the only side to challenge them closely, going down by 19 points in Round 4.
Yarram coach Barry Mitchell made no excuses after the loss.
“We were simply outclassed by a very well-structured and drilled team,” he said.
The home side started strongly once again, kicking eight goals to Yarram’s two in the opening term. The scoreboard could have been even more one-sided had Cowwarr been more accurate in front of goal.
Yarram lifted their intensity in the second quarter and took the game up to the ladder leaders, but most of their scoring opportunities came under heavy pressure.
Cowwarr steadied after half-time and, as they have done all season, asserted their class in the third term to take full control of the contest.
To their credit, Yarram continued to fight out the match until the final siren, adding two more goals in the last quarter.
Cowwarr star Keegan Hughes was dominant up forward, booting 11 goals and claiming best on ground honours, while Yarram’s Griffin Underwood led from the front throughout the day. Wellesley Jenkins was also among the Demons’ better players, finishing with three goals in a hard-working display.
