Seven week penalty after local footy brawl
North Gippsland Football Netball league have confirmed that a player from the Yarram Rosedale senior match has been suspended for seven weeks after video emerged of a brawl which left another player with facial injuries.
Two videos of the brawl was released on social media. There were no reports from the game and no player was sent off after the incident which has been questioned by witnesses to the incident. However Rosedale requested an investigation and after seeing the video NGFNL sent the case to the tribunal, NGFNL president reportedly told Weekly Times.
North Gippsland officials confirmed a Yarram player, whom they did not name, had been banned for five matches. He also received a two-match suspended sentence, according to league sources.
In a statement, North Gippsland president Martha Truin said: “A melee broke out at the Yarram-Rosedale game. No reports were handed out at the time. An incident referral was lodged by Rosedale FNC to the controlling body, the NGFNL.
“This was then passed on to the MRO, who sent the case straight to the tribunal, resulting in one player charged and receiving five weeks’ suspension.’’
Rosedale won the match 18.9 (117) to 5.9 (39).
