Vote for Nala
LOCAL dog Nala and her owner, Brooke Pattinson, are calling on the community to help them take out a national competition — and support several important causes along the way.
The purebred German shepherd is competing against more than 7000 dogs from across Australia in the Happy Bubbles competition and is currently sitting in third place.
Nala previously held the top position for two weeks, and Brooke hopes the support of the Yarram and district community can help return her to first place before voting closes on September 30.
“We just need all the community’s support to vote for her and help her win,” Brooke said.
The competition’s first prize is $100,000, which Brooke said would be life-changing for her family.
A win would also allow Brooke to donate $1000 to MND Australia and $1000 to Motherless Daughters Australia — two organisations especially close to her heart.
Brooke’s mother was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2020 and died in 2021.
“MND Australia is something really close to myself and my family,” she said.
“We would also donate to Motherless Daughters Australia to help people like myself and other daughters who have lost their mums at any age.”
If Nala finishes among the top 30, a further $5000 will be donated to a dog rescue shelter chosen by Brooke, helping animals in need of care and support.
Brooke first entered Nala in the competition last year, when she joined the field late but still achieved an impressive 20th-place finish.
This year, with Nala already among the leading contenders, Brooke believes a strong final push from the community could make all the difference.
Voting is free and involves entering a name, email address, telephone number and state. Voters then receive a text message containing a link to confirm their vote. Those who vote also enter a draw to win $10,000.
QR codes have been prepared to make accessing Nala’s voting page easier.
“She has come this far and is so close to winning,” Brooke said.
“Any support is greatly appreciated. Every vote helps us move closer to winning this competition and supporting causes that mean so much to our family.”
