Rosedale feel the wrath of Woodside

Woodside totally outplayed their opposition Rosedale in the first half of their round 13 match.

This week was NAIDOC round, a special event for Woodside who wear their Indigenous jumpers and netball dresses with pride.

Rosedale’s change room doors were locked during the half time break with coach Driscoll make his feelings known about the lack of effort by his young side in that first half.

The second half was a closer affair with Rosedale being able to match it with Woodside but not being able to make up any ground on the scoreboard.

Woodside held a 27-point advantage after the first term.  They turned that into a 62-point advantage at the half time siren.

It was a lot slicker Woodside unit this week.

In the post-game interview, coach Ben Johnson admitting that they had done a lot of work on their marking at training during the week following their below par display the week prior against TTU.

Rosedale were much better in the second half but despite some good passages of play they could not close the gap.  61 points was the margin at the final change and 65 at games end.

Zac Richards lines up for the first of his four goals

Best players was a contentious issue with many giving Luke Johnson the nod while the umpires awarded the NAIDOC Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place Best on Ground to Ryan Foat who also took out the NGFNL Live broadcast player of the day award.

The Clubs best players saw Daniel Missen receive first mention.

Brody Stainer and Zac Richards were the major goal kickers with four goals each.

Woodside welcomed Rob Michaelides back to their senior ranks  for this game after a couple of games in the reserves. Michaelides started the season with Morwell East before transferring to the Wildcats, a club he is very familiar with.  He played with the Wildcats in season 2013 before returning back to the Gippsland League.  He travelled over the hill again in 2016 but again it was only for one season.

Rosedale could take a lot from their second half – they were able to match it with Woodside but were let down by their first half. Thomas Northe was named as their best player. Michael Driscol and Blake Safstrom were the major goal scorers with two goals each.
