Woodside Claims Three Wins in Entertaining Clash with Gormandale
Woodside's netballers enjoyed a successful afternoon against Gormandale, recording victories in B, C and D Grade, while the 17 & Under match finished in a thrilling draw and the A Grade side fell agonisingly short in one of the games of the season.
A Grade
Spectators were treated to a thrilling contest as fifth-placed Woodside pushed second-placed Gormandale all the way before going down by a solitary goal, 51-50.
The match marked the completion of the first half of the season, with every team now having played each opponent once, giving coaches a clear indication of where their sides sit heading into the run home.
Woodside made the perfect start, racing out to the first four goals before Gormandale settled into the contest and levelled the scores. From that point the game became a gripping goal-for-goal battle, with neither side able to establish a significant break.
Despite a determined performance from the Wildcats, Gormandale managed to edge ahead late to secure the one-goal victory.
Kimberley Wright led the scoring with 41 goals, while Tavia Fields added nine.
B Grade
Woodside produced another strong performance to defeat Gormandale 54-44.
The Wildcats were efficient in attack, with Jen Duncan finishing with 31 goals and Saskia Eenjes contributing 23 as the pair combined well to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
C Grade
Woodside prevailed in the closest finish of the day outside A Grade, defeating Gormandale 34-33.
Brydie Hurrell was outstanding in the shooting circle, converting 31 goals, while Sammi Sykes added three in a hard-fought victory.
D Grade
The Wildcats made it three consecutive senior grade wins with a convincing 44-32 victory.
Rikki-Lee Bonnici starred under the post with 31 goals, supported by Erin Henderson with 10 and Sydney Kee with three.
17 & Under
There was nothing separating the two sides in an entertaining 26-all draw.
Zoe Hustwayte led the way with an impressive 20 goals, while Emily Hustwayte contributed four and Sydney Kee added two.
15 & Under
Woodside's 15 & Under team battled hard but was defeated 35-13 by Gormandale.
Macey Kee finished with seven goals, Alice Nye added four and Stella Kerr scored two in a determined performance from the young Wildcats.
