Yarram B Grade final hopes remain alive with win over Glengarry
Yarram’s B Grade netballers secured a hard-fought 48–35 victory over Glengarry, providing the highlight of a challenging round for the Demons.
Knowing a strong performance was needed, Yarram overcame some early wayward passes and infringements before lifting its intensity through the second and third quarters.
India and Rachel were accurate under the post, capitalising on the defensive pressure and intercepts created further down the court.
Substitutes Manawa and Alira made an immediate impact, with Manawa producing several impressive intercepts and feeding the shooters well, while Alira worked hard to deny her opponent space.
Ekala, Sharnie and Ruby provided reliable options through the midcourt, supporting the strong defensive efforts of Madi and Lilli. Sharnie and Manawa received the team awards.
This coming Saturday will be the match of the Day on the netball courts – with Yarram needing the win over near neighbours Woodside and hoping other games fall their way if they are to sneak into the final five on the last home and away game of the season.
Yarram’s younger sides were forced to reshuffle due to several absences.
The Under 15s welcomed Charli and Mackai Irwin for their Yarram and league netball debuts in a 72–6 loss. Both newcomers settled quickly, having previously played alongside several teammates at domestic level.
Despite taking time to score, Yarram continued applying defensive pressure, with Charlotte Sumner, Kitty Brennan and Izzy Slade producing standout performances.
The Under 17s were also depleted by illness but received valuable support from Under 15 players in their 43–18 defeat.
Charlotte Sumner impressed across defence and the midcourt, while Bink Newton provided a steady presence and put skills practised at training into action. Both received awards.
Navy Ellmers made her Under 17 debut, while the team wished Lilly Hunter a speedy recovery from an ankle injury.
Glengarry proved too strong in D Grade, recording a 59–16 victory. Despite the result, Yarram continued to show improvement and responded positively to several positional changes. Mariah and Bec received the awards.
Yarram’s C Grade side made a promising start before going down 52–18.
Strong passages of play helped move the ball into attack, where Tahl showed safe hands and accurate shooting. Alix produced several impressive intercepts, while newcomer Rhiannon shut down her opponent and supported the transition through the court.
The side also welcomed Cooky back after several weeks away.
Yarram will return home next week for its final game of the season.
