Bumper Fields Set for King's Birthday Golf Tournament
Yarram Golf course is in magnificent condition ahead of this weekend's iconic King's Birthday Three-Day Tournament, with dedicated volunteers ensuring the fairways and greens are presented at their very best.
Tournament organisers have been thrilled with the strong response from golfers, particularly for Sunday's Ambrose event and Monday's Fourball Stableford, which have attracted visitors from numerous Gippsland clubs. The popular tournament continues to draw players thanks to the quality of the course and the generous prizes on offer.
Jenkins Leads Strong Saturday Field
A field of 68 golfers contested Saturday's Individual Stableford competition, with Lukas Jenkins producing an outstanding round to claim the overall victory and C Grade honours with 40 points.
Visiting Ringwood golfer Darren Walton topped A Grade with an impressive 38 points, while Dean Summerfield continued his strong form to win B Grade and the Veterans event with 37 points.
Neil O'Connell's steady improvement was rewarded with victory in D Grade, also posting 37 points.
Ten players received Down The Line balls, extending to scores of 34 points.
Rick Rogers claimed the nearest-the-pin prize on the 7th hole, while Brendan Farley almost recorded a hole-in-one with a superb shot on the 15th to secure the money prize. Anne Maree Skarratt was closest to the pin on the 18th.
Birdie ball winners on the par-three holes were Scott Leggett, Peter Jenkins, Neil Lockhart and Kel Griffiths.
Another Ringwood visitor, Nick Walton, highlighted the day with a superb eagle three on the eighth hole.
Rippon Tops Ladies Stableford
Tuesday's Ladies Stableford competition was won by Linda Rippon, who put together a consistent round to finish with 35 points.
Anne Maree Skarratt and Jen Nickell collected Down The Line balls, while Skarratt also claimed the target hole prize on the first. Barbara Cox took out the target hole award on the 18th.
Summerfield Continues Winning Form
Dean Summerfield carried his excellent form into the Men's Stableford competition, scoring 36 points to finish on handicap and secure another victory.
Steve Papworth and Chris Buckland both returned 35 points, while Peter Jenkins finished close behind with 33.
Baggaley and Cox Among Midweek Winners
Frank Baggaley led the way in the Nine-Hole Stableford with 17 points, continuing his recent run of strong performances.
Thursday's popular Chicken Run saw Barbara Cox further cement her reputation as a specialist in the event, claiming victory with 21 points. Graham Underwood and Suzie Davis both scored 19 points, with Davis also winning the nearest-the-pin competition.
Skarratt Claims Family Bragging Rights
Sunday's Nine-Hole Stableford was won by Anne Maree Skarratt with 18 points.
The victory also earned valuable family bragging rights, finishing ahead of husband John Skarratt on 16 points and son Dylan Skarratt on 13 points.
